Timber Framing Basics with Dan Peper

This class is an introduction to the art of timber frame construction.  Class will begin within a timber frame home exploring some basic timber framing questions.  Why choose a timber frame instead conventional construction? How do you determine which joinery to use in various applications? Which species of trees are appropriate to use?   How are timber framed structures insulated?  Will a timber frame meet building codes?  How are utilities installed?  After lunch class will move to the shop and students will help lay out and cut typical timber frame joints.  Tools used and their maintenance will be demonstrated.
